Music, Nigeria’s Highest Export

Music, Nigeria’s Highest Export: We perceive music in different ways; some see it as the study of sounds organized in time, others sense it as any pleasant sound to their ears, while the selected many feel music in its power as an art form, created by organizing of pitch, rhythm and sounds using musical instruments and sometimes singing. We are among these selected many and we bet many of our readers are too.

Today, we are taking the first step on a journey that has been predicted to last decades.

The present day millennial community seems to have started changing the face of music, coming up with new genres and sounds.

Let’s take Nigeria for instance, it is an obvious discovery that we have traveled conveniently through time in our music phase (at least one thing dey work well). Music in Nigeria has become the nation’s highest export asides Oil, Ships, Cocoa, Oil seeds, Fruits and nuts, fertilizers, and a couple others. The records wouldn’t show music, definitely but we can all agree it is the highest export.

Oya, let us give a resounding round of applause to the music industry…

That’s enough!

Music is Nigeria’s highest export. Check out artistes like our very own Starboy, Davido, Burna boy, Tiwa Savage (who just got signed by UMG), Patoranking, making it big in the international scene. Little wonder the world’s music Lords, UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP (UMG) which is home to major global acts like Eminem, Drake, Kanye West, and Rihanna, slithered itself into the Nigerian yard. Nigerian music is shutting down clubs and carnivals across the globe, a majority of the world’s population shuffle Nigerian sounds through their playlists and our stars have generated a magnanimous fan-base.

Well, let me let you in on a secret. We are going to discuss a different Nigerian UMG act every Tuesday. Today it’s our personal favorite with his banging track “Trobul”, Wurld.

UMG has got tons of Nigerians though, they got Tay Iwar, IDYL, Odunsi the Engine, also have a co-signing; oga Alhaji Tekno (with Island Records UK).

Anyways, moving on, who is Wurld?

Sadiq Onifade, as his parents called him during his naming ceremony, is an American-Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria on the 2nd of January 1987. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, USA to study Computer science and also to record his own music which we can call Soul or Pop music but VIBE called it electro-fusion (I bin telli una say these boys don dey bring out new genres, u don see am nah).

His first EP was released in 2013 and he tagged it “EVOLUTION”, although his debut single, “BEYOND OUR DREAMS” was dropped late 2012.

He has worked with Mario, Timbaland’s artiste – BK Brasco in his song “Beautiful Girls”, Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire and afro-beat producer Shizzi on his May 2016 track “SHOW YOU OFF”, and with Sir Felix in June 2016 on the song “BETTER DAYS”.

In 2015, Wurld went certified GOLD with his Sony Music release “FOLLOW YOU” in collaboration with Polish DJ, Gromee.

Today, Wurld has songs like Contagious, Trobul being contagious and troubling the music community. Nice one Wurld!

Well folks, my fingers have started to ache from typing, my doctor said not to stress them too much these days. So, we take the next step next week and we hope you are going to be there to take it with us.
