Madonna Loses Appeal to Block Sale of Tupac Shakur’s Breakup Letter: Tupac Shakur’s handwritten breakup letter to Madonna will officially be available for purchase next month.

On Tuesday (June 4), TMZ reported that a New York State Appeals Court denied the iconic pop star’s appeal to stop the sale of the letter and more personal items of hers.

According to the celebrity news site, the court ruled that Madonna has no basis to pursue claims against Darlene Lutz, a former friend of Madge and the woman who sold the singer’s personal items to GottaHaveRockandRoll.com, which is the company now auctioning them off.

Madonna’s appeal stemmed from a 2018 court ruling that tossed out Madonna’s lawsuit to stop the sale of the items, with the then-judge saying that she’d signed a release form in 2004, so she was unable to sue. In Tuesday’s ruling, the appellate court upheld the judge’s decision and wrote in the docs that Madonna’s claims are blocked by the “very broad” release.

As previously reported, the letter, in which Tupac tells Madonna that he can no longer date her because of her race, was penned while ‘Pac was behind bars 24 years ago.

“For you to be seen with a Black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career. If anything it would make you seem that much more open & exciting,” ‘Pac wrote in one part of the letter. “But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you.”

The letter and other Madonna items go up for auction in July.
